Ow(l)etter party is a common project of Primary School Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski, Ivanec, CNSL (Croatian Network of School Librarians) and CASL (Croatian Association of School Librarians) which involved among 22 – 45 school libraries in Croatia pro year during time. School libraries have been included with leisure aloud reading because we are trying to popularize reading. These are a few of our goals: to make impact on pupils' positive attitude for reading, to raise pupils' self-esteem with the help of leisure reading in the local community, and to give the local community a new cultural activity and service – reading aloud.
There are two project phases; meetings which include reading at night in the school library, and reading in local community. During the meetings at nigh the mandatory activities are a special leisure reading ceremony and communicating with other school libraries over Skype or some other video conferencing tool.
Other numerous activities depend on the creativity of each library by itself and are created by executive teams and pupils. Pupils can stay in the library only for one part or they can sleep there, if the library is equipped and has the necessary conditions. Reading in local community implies reading aloud in various institutions, associations, companies and public places. These events take place under the organisation of the executive school team which is lead by the school librarian or they can participate in some cultural or volunteer programme held by the local community. Every school library is required to read at least 3 times in their local community.
At the end of an annual cycle the best library is presented at a closing ceremony. Usually, the awarded library is the one which had the most interesting and the most frequent readings in their local community. The library is presented with various books by the leading publishers in the country. Famous and public individuals also participate in the closing ceremony. The documents necessary for the execution of this project have been provided by the Primary School Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski, Ivanec. Reading at night and reading in local community had to be documented on Facebook group and Facebook site called Tulum s(l)ova. The most active school library is awarded at the closing ceremony. The Project is represented in media.
